BIOGRAPHY
Dr. Chau-Kuang Chen is a Professor and Director of Institutional Research, teaching Biostatistics I and Biostatistics and Health Equity Research courses in the School of Global Health. His nearly 40-year career in teaching and data analytics has been recognized with multiple honors, including the 2014 Exemplary Teaching Award, the 2008 Meharry Distinguished Graduate Educator Award, and three Dean’s Awards for Excellence in Teaching in the School of Graduate Studies. As Director of Institutional Research, Dr. Chen developed the Centralized Institutional Research Reporting Systems (CIRRS) and supports institutional accreditation through data analytics. He has presented at over 50 conferences and was invited to speak at Beihang University, China and the University of Oxford, UK. Dr. Chen has published more than thirty peer-reviewed articles on public health and higher education, focusing on topics such as infant mortality, adult obesity, and student learning outcomes. His research articles appear in journals including the Journal of Health Care for the Poor and Underserved, IR Applications, and International Journal of Technology, Knowledge and Society. Dr. Chen’s expertise spans psychometric measurement generalized linear modeling, survival analysis, and artificial intelligence. He has implemented problem-based learning initiatives analyzing COVID-19 survey data across racial groups and validating assessment instruments for medical school curricula using item response theory.
